INTRODUCTION to 24-7 PRAYER WEEK

‘Every time we pray, our horizon is altered, our attitude to things is altered – not sometimes but every time – and the amazing thing is we don’t pray more often’. (Oswald Chambers).

Christians have been given the incredible privilege of direct access to God through our prayers. Think of it: the Creator of the Universe has invited us to talk with him day and night – anytime anywhere, and about anything. From our simplest petitions to our highest praise, God wants to hear from us. If we’re frightened, he’s there to calm and encourage us. If we’re thinking through a tough situation, he’s there to give us wisdom. If we’re giving thanks for things that have gone well he’s there to share our joy.

The above statement has presented a challenge to the Crowborough and Rotherfield Churches Together Group, and we have decided to set up a 24-7 Prayer Week, which we hope will help us all take on a new perspective in our prayer lives.

AIM OF 24-7 Prayer Week

The aim of 24-7 is not just to set up another week of prayer among our own Church members. It is not even just to set up a week praying with members of other Churches in Crowborough. It is to set up a 24 hour 7 day week long prayer activity to involve all our Churches and members of our community.

The aim of the week is to set up the environment and the opportunity for the people of Crowborough to speak, share and pray about their hopes and concerns for the future and to give thanks for the present and the past.

HOW and WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN

We will be setting up a Prayer room at Christ Church, Beacon Road, Crowborough. This room will provide the environment and resources for 24/7 prayer, along with special events and activities during the week. More details of these to follow.

The room will be open for people to ‘drop in’ at any time to join in the activities or special times of prayer, or just to sit in a quiet atmosphere to pray, read, listen to music or just to be a peace with God.

What happens each day in the Prayer Room?

Each day there will be three separate times of Formal Worship & Prayer led by different groups and on different themes; these are at 8am; 1pm & 9pm. All are welcome to these and each day we will be praying for a different area of our community.

HOW CAN I BE PART OF THE WEEK?

By coming to the various special prayer and activity times or by just ‘dropping into’ the Prayer Room as and when it suits you.

If you need any further information or help please make contact with us and we will do our best to help.

Even non-Christians could sense the Lord’s presence in that room, whispering, ‘Wow- you can really feel God in here!’  On one occasion the visitor was reminded that he didn’t actually believe in God, but replied without hesitation, ‘Yeah, I don’t. But you can really feel him in here, can’t you?’

We were beginning to discover that people who don’t want to be preached at still want to be prayed for. People who don’t think they believe in God still believe in prayer. And some people who don’t so much as go to church actually don’t mind rolling up at a prayer room even in the middle of the night!
